Malcolm Pivar

August 21, 1934 ~ December 12, 2021 (age 87)

Malcolm Pivar passed away on December 12th, 2021 at the age of 87. He was the son of the late H. Edward Pivar and Minnie Pivar (nee Looban), and brother of the late Alvin Pivar.

Born in Baltimore, Malcolm's first job at a very early age was to help customers in his father's paint and wallpaper store, and he continued working well past traditional retirement age.  He excelled at math and logic and made significant contributions in computing during the early 1960s in the area of oceanographic mapping at MIT before moving to other areas of software development.  Malcolm prided himself on being self-sufficient, continuing to work at McCormick well into 2019, and was extremely mobile and active until his last days, including routine walks - backpack in tow - to his nearby Wendy's restaurant where he enjoyed being and was always treated with kindness.  He had an extensive variety of interests & knowledge, including classical music and astronomy. He loved books with a passion, wrote music, played harmonica as well as various other instruments, and liked to draw.  He was a gentle soul, his main desire, through his many writings, was to make the world a better place for mankind.

He will be dearly missed by his devoted niece and nephews, Lisa (Jeffrey), Michael (Cindy) and Stuart (Isabela) Pivar; his sister-in-law Mary Pivar; his cousins Adele (Bernie) Taube, Leah Heyn, Myra (Buzzy) Hettleman, Estelle Cohen, and many others in the Rachel Looban Family Group; his community of friends in Joppa MD, where he lived for many years; and especially by his dear friend and guardian angel, Wanda Cobbs.

Services will be private.
