Joseph Stafford Freeman born January, 1932 passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family, he was 89 years old. He attended high school at Abilene Christian College, Baylor University, and the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
He joined the United States Navy on 2 Jul 1951. Joe served as a Hospital Corpsman at Bethesda Navy Hospital and Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii.
He and his wife owned and operated the Medicine Shoppe in Havre de Grace, MD for 20 years. Upon retiring he was quoted in The Record “We thoroughly enjoyed it and our customers.” Joe is survived by his wife Mary Magdalen, children JoAnn Hancock, Diane Burke, her husband Lance, John Freeman, his wife Carol, and Steve Freeman and his wife Robin. He has 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, Annie and Joe Freeman, brother John Porter Freeman, and son-in-law Joe Hancock.
Joe loved woodworking, flying, and going on cruises. He enjoyed reading his Bible and discussing it with others. He was one of the founding members and an Elder of Redeemer’s Fellowship. Joe treasured his family and spent many hours building or fixing things for them. He was a man with great intelligence and character. Joe appreciated a good glass of Scotch with family and friends. His stories of past experiences were endless and very entertaining. He was blessed by having loving caregivers for the last few years. Joe will be missed by family, friends, and caregivers.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Harford County Humane Society.
A celebration of life memorial is planned for January 4, 2022 at Highview Memorial.
