Frine “Minnie” Azzam, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday September 29th, 2021, at the venerable age of 91.
Everyone that knew her, definitely knew how much she loved to sleep, and that was definitely a very fitting and blessed way for her to go.
Minnie was born in Paris in 1930 in an artistic family, from Gilberto Gherardi, and Agatha Girolami. She traveled the world, first with her family as they performed throughout Europe, then alone as her fame grew, until she met her late husband, Bob Azzam, a star of his own right. She now joins him in his eternal life, as he preceded her in death in 2004.
In 2018, as age and dementia took their toll, she left Monte Carlo, where she had resided with her husband for the past 30 years, and moved to the United States to live with her daughter and her son in law, Sherine and David. As her state deteriorated, she was then placed in the wonderful care of the people of Madonna Heritage Assisted Living, who cared for her like she was family, when her own children couldn’t because of Covid restrictions.
She had just been able to reconnect with her family when her state changed for the worst. Perhaps she was waiting to be able to say goodbye to her children. She was very dramatic, that way.
Minnie was an artist through and through, and the world was her stage. She spoke 6 languages, could sing a song in over 20, and had a “Tuscan old saying” for absolutely every occasion. She was a feisty old lady, that had incredible tales from her life to tell anyone who would listen, and she touched the hearts of everyone that cared for her.
Minnie is survived by her two children, Georges Azzam and Sherine Gatto, and her grandchildren, Tyler and Dillon Azzam.
A graveside service will be held for her at Highview Memorial Gardens, on Saturday October 23, at 2pm.
