Beloved wife, mother, sister, and teacher, Elaine Houlik, 77, of Fallston, MD, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 17, 2020, after a hard fought battle with metastatic breast cancer. A lifetime educator, Elaine retired from teaching at Youth’s Benefit Elementary School in 2005. As a teacher, she was always hands-on from the classroom to the kickball field and fostered in her students a love for learning, especially reading. In retirement, she enjoyed working in the beautiful flower garden she created in her backyard and spending time with dear friends. Her favorite time, however, was time spent with her family. Elaine is survived by Chuck, her loving husband of 54 years; two daughters, Elise and Cheryl Lynn Schaefer (Robert); two grandchildren Joseph Schaefer (Arielle) and Elizabeth Schaefer (Nikhil Bhatia); three sisters Janet Lynch, Joan Palmieri (Mark), and Stasia Zanca, and their families; her cousin Dolores Walis (Peter) and family; and cousin and childhood partner in crime, Michael Vachna, and his family. A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist, Long Green Valley, her home parish for over 35 years, and livestreamed via their Facebook page on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 10am. Private interment to follow at Highview Memorial Gardens, Fallston, MD.
May holy Mary, the angels, and all the saints welcome you now that you have gone forth from this life.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. John the Evangelist Youth Ministry.
