Colleen Janet (Hayes) Wagoner

July 20, 1930 ~ January 28, 2022 (age 91)

Colleen Janet Wagoner, 91, of Abingdon Maryland, began her heavenly journey on Friday, January 28, 2022.  She was  in her “little mansion” as she lovingly referred to her home, surrounded by her family.

Colleen was born on July 20,1930 at her home in Fallston, Maryland, a daughter of the late Earl John Hayes and Mabel Clayton Hayes.  She was the second of five siblings and is survived by her sister, Brenda Currens.  Colleen was married to the late Mahlon Conley Wagoner Jr. (Junie).  Together they raised five children - Edward Wagoner, Linda Parish, Connie Tripp, Sherry Rowe and Ronald Wagoner.  She was a grandmother to eleven and a great-grandmother to fifteen children.  She also had three step grandchildren and 17 step great-grandchildren.

Those who knew her know that she loved her Lord.  She gave her heart to Jesus in 1965 at Maple View Baptist Church, where she was an active member for thirty plus years.  She joined the congregation at New Covenant Presbyterian Church in 1997, where she worshiped until her health would no longer let her.  She always hoped she would return.  She continued to watch virtually up until just a couple of weeks before her passing.  She attended a Bible study at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and enjoyed the fellowship of believers there as well for many years.  Her kind, gentle spirit was always a testimony of the Lord she loved and served.

She was always willing to help and was a blessing to her children and grandchildren as she loved unselfishly and tirelessly.  The little girl in her came through with her fondness for teddy bears of which she had a huge collection and even made miniature ones.  Giraffes were her favorite animal.  She often said she would have liked to be one so she could see everything that is going on.  She was a wonderful cook and made the best lemon and chocolate meringue pies.  Many a scarf, sweater, dress, etc...has been gifted due to her talents in knitting, crochet, sewing, quilting and tatting.  She would not say she was talented, but she was.  What stands out most about her though was her sweet, humble spirit that drew people to her.  She was a great listener, friend, mother, grandmother, sister, and model for so many.

Her family is arranging a Memorial Service to be held on May 14th at 10:30 am at New Covenant Presbyterian Church.  We will have a time of sharing lovely memories of Colleen Wagoner.  Anyone who cared for her is welcome.
